CORRECTION: Charles told me of an error I made on the bold lines on topo maps. The difference between two bold (heavy) lines on a topo map published by the USGS is five times the contour interval, not four. So if the contour interval is 20 feet, the difference between two bold lines will be 100 feet, not 80. Likewise for 100-foot and 200-foot intervals > 500 feet and 1000 feet, respectively.
